The 3 Peaks Challenge

I lift up my eyes to the mountains; where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121

A great opportunity to do the National 3 Peaks challenge spread over 3 days with each peak on consecutive days. On Friday 16th May we leave Bedworth at 6:30am and climb Scafell Pike (highest in England, 978m) in the afternoon. We stay at a hotel on route to Scotland and on Saturday 17th May we climb Ben Nevis (highest in UK, 1,345m) and finally head to Wales and climb Yr Wyddfa (highest in Wales, 1085m) on Sunday 18th May. We will have transport throughout the challenge, hotel for 2 nights plus the option of a special BPC 3 Peaks t-shirt!

Places are limited and to keep costs to a minimum we need to maximise the number of people in each mini bus. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Booking will close on 7th February.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be to do the challenge?

To climb Ben Nevis, you should be reasonably fit and have good stamina. The round trip is over eight miles long and can take between seven and nine hours. The top is steep and takes a lot of energy, and coming down is just as difficult as going up.
Here are some things to consider:

  • Weather - Clear skies and reasonable temperatures make the climb easier. Snow and low visibility can make it more difficult.

  • Clothing -Wear good, sturdy shoes or boots with a good sole to protect your feet from sharp edges and pebbles. Avoid cotton, which soaks up water.

  • Fitness - You should be able to walk the distance on flat ground before attempting Ben Nevis. If you're not a frequent hillwalker, the climb will be challenging.

You can also try climbing a lower hill nearby to get an idea of your fitness level. Kinder Scout in the Peak District is a good option.

What do I do if I need advice about clothing or EqUipment?

In the first instance get in touch with Dave Jones dave.jones@bedworthparish.org and he will be able to direct kit questions to the most appropriate person.
